TRUE BLOOD RECAP 2.9 "I WILL RISE UP"

And we’re right back where we left off from last week…the Lukenator opens his coat to reveal the bomb and then “BOOM goes the silver dynamite!” Bill is still standing outside after ejecting Lorena from the house when the explosion occurs and he rushes back inside for Sookie. There is damage everywhere – dead human and vamp bodies among the dust and debris. Bill wades through the gore to find that Eric has covered Sookie’s body with his own to protect her from the blast. Eric orders Bill to catch the humans still outside and Bill takes off after them. He grabs one of the FOTS out of the retreating car and takes a big bite of his neck. However, Bill ends up letting him run off alive – telling him he is showing mercy where they have not…

Back inside, Sookie pushes Eric off of her and shouts for Jason. Yea! Jason survived the blast and gives Sookie a big thumbs up to show he is okay. She turns her attention back to Eric and finds he is not doing as well. He has several silver shrapnel/bullet fragments in his body and he is dying. He informs Sookie that she needs to suck out the silver from his body and she grudgingly complies. The camera pans away to show a big smile on Eric’s face, and its obvious to everyone but Sookie that he is faking.

Bill returns to the house to see Sookie straddling Eric as she sucks on his chest. She quickly finds out it was a strategic ploy for Sookie to ingest some of Eric’s blood so now he will be a part of her – they are now connected and he too will now be able to sense her emotions. Sookie is outraged [you big, lying A-hole!], Bill is pissed, and Eric is pleased [she was superb] …let the love triangle begin!!!

Back at the Hotel, Sookie is still pissed about Eric’s deception and how gullible she is. She vows to Bill that she will never trust Eric again. Bill informs her due to the blood ingestion not only will he be able to find her and her emotions, but worst of all she may also feel sexual attraction to Eric…Sookie states that will be impossible. They agree that they both could kill him for his trickery.

Later that day, Sookie can’t sleep, so she seeks out her brother next door to talk about what happened. Jason reveals that people back home like his athletics, good looks, or sex abilities [LOL] but they never seemed to really like him. He felt that the Newlins initially saw more in him and he bought into their lies. They also talk about Gran and it reinforces that they are the only family left and it is up to them to grow up and stick together. [In a funny moment, Sookie tells Jason that he wouldn’t be a f*ckup if he would use his brain instead of just letting it sit there taking up space in his head.] They turn on the TV in time to catch a debate between the Newlins and Nan Flannigan with the AVL [American Vampire League]. Steve still has the welt from the paintball and keeps interrupting Sarah, forcing her to call him out on being an attention whore [and she hates his hair!] And though the Newlins don’t seem very happy with each other, they remain united in their quest against vampires. Jason sums them up pretty well as the witch and the sumbitch.

Sookie finally does sleep, but her dreams are invaded by a naked blond Viking. Yep, you read that right; Eric and Sookie are in bed together. They are naked facing each other as they playfully banter about why Sookie would or wouldn’t make a good vampire. Eric starts kissing on her neck, which reminds her to look around for Bill. Instead of finding Bill she sees Lorena sitting in a chair at the foot of the bed. Lorena must be her guilt in disguise as she tells Sookie that she doesn’t care about Bill and she has already abandoned him and he means nothing to her. Eric tells her “this is the beginning” before he starts kissing her… until she wakes up to see that Bill is still asleep next to her.

Hoyt and Jessica are cuddling back as the Compton manor. Jessica feels like a freak for literally being the eternal virgin, but Hoyt reassures her by asking her to meet his mother. He warns her about his mom, but Jessica doesn’t care. As dawn approaches, he walks her to the hidey-hole and sings her to sleep [awwww, is there anyone out there not completely in love with them at this point!].

Hoyt’s mama is giving him a hard time about running off to Dallas for his girlfriend that she does not approve of. Hoyt’s reminds Maxine that she hates everything, including: Methodists [she has her reasons]; Catholics [just priests and nuns]; African Americans [hush, that’s a secret]; people who don’t take care of their gardens; people that park their trucks on their lawns; ladies who wear red shoes [it looks cheap]; families with lots of kids; checkered curtains; cats and dogs and bait; and every girl that Hoyt has ever liked. She says she only objects to vampires because they could kill and eat you, which is reasonable. Hoyt informs her she is full of hate and he really sees her and if she refuses to meet Jessica and act nice to her, he will move out and never come back. Also, he is no longer her baby, he is a grown-ass man!

Later that night Hoyt and Jessica meet Maxine at Merlotte’s for dinner. Mama Maxine is 20 minutes late and is rude to a clearly nervous Jessica. She refuses to eat or drink anything, and then tells Jessica that Hoyt is a good boy most of the time. Maxine asks to meet her family, so she has to reveal that she no longer has a family since she was unwillingly turned. Maxine apologizes for her remark, but informs Jessica that Hoyt has a bright future [meaning daylight] and she will not allow some orphan vampire to take Hoyt. Jessica bears her fangs and says that is up to Hoyt, so Maxine thrusts the final dagger in that they have no future since Jessica is unable to give Hoyt babies. This remark causes Jessica to leave Merlotte’s crying blood and Hoyt to declare he isn’t coming home.

Tara and Eggs wake up the next morning embarrassed that they are so out of control that they still can’t remember anything. They vent to Maryann about their blackout worries and being bashed up, and she goes off on a speech about other cultures that have lost control. Maryann talks about religious people losing themselves in the chaos to be closer to god, but it sounds like crazy talk to them. [Seriously, why have they not figured out that they live with a lunatic yet?]

They walk into Merlotte’s, and when Lafayette sees Tara’s bruised face he goes postal on Eggs. Lafayette is AWESOME! Tara breaks them up and pushes Eggs outside. That night back at Casa Sookie/Tara/Eggs/Carl/Maryann, someone knocks on the door and interrupts their strip poker fun in the dining room. It’s Lafayette and Lettie Mae to rescue Tara away from Maryann and Eggs. Maryann temps Lettie Mae with a bottle of vodka, and Lafayette calls her a soulless bitch. Next thing you know Tara has the demon eyes and starts attacking her mama. Eggs confronts Lafayette, but luckily he has enough of Eric’s blood left in him to throw Eggs off and grab Tara as they make a run for it back to the car. Tara starts screaming in this creepy possessed growl, but they get away, for now…Maryann states that Tara will be back and she will bring them with her…[this sounds ominous].

Sam begs Sheriff Dearborn to let him out of jail, as there is no evidence to keep him under arrest. It looks like most of the town is also locked up in the other cells for all acts of indecency that occurred the previous night. Maryann arrives and shimmers to possess him into giving her the keys to take care of Sam, who escapes the cell after spotting a fly on the vent - and without further ado he strips and shapeshifts away. Sam is literally a fly on the wall as he follows Maryann around trying to figure out what she is up to. Maryann finds his cell empty and is incensed that he has managed to escape again. So she heads over to Merlotte’s looking for Sam, but nobody has seen him all day, so she possesses the crowd into her own personal mob whose sole purpose is to find and capture him. Sam realizes he is out of options, so he turns to the only person that may still believe him as he arrives at a seedy motel and knocks on Andy Bellfleur’s door.

That night the vamps all converge in Bill’s hotel room. Nan Flannigan is in town to handle the PR mess in Dallas due to the bombing. She is pissed that she has to clean up their mess. She blames Godric for giving himself to the FOTS and strips him of his title and all positions of authority. Godric agrees and declares Isabel new sheriff in Dallas. Throughout this meeting Sookie cannot stop glancing over at Eric and even Bill notices. Sookie tries to reason with Nan since Godric saved her life, but to no avail. Godric apologizes and vows that he will make amends; Eric realizes what he means to do and starts to follow him to the roof. Bill stops Eric and sucker punches him for tricking Sookie. Eric doesn’t fight back, he just tells him that its done and he is part of her now and to get out of the way [basically just deal with it, whiny Bill].

Sookie tells Bill she needs to find Godric. Bill can’t understand so she tries to explain that he is in pain and she owes him. Bill wants to go with her to the roof, but it is so close to dawn she refuses to let him accompany her. Sookie tells Bill she doesn’t know what she can do for Godric, she just knows that she needs to be there for him, so he reluctantly lets her go.

On the roof Sookie witnesses Godric and Eric arguing about vampire existence in the world. Godric thinks they don’t belong and Eric disagrees. Eric refuses to let Godric go, saying he will prevent him from killing himself until Godric asks how he can be so cruel. Eric then tries pleading with him in Swedish to not do this, but Godric is resigned to his decision. As Eric cries and begs, Godric commands him to let him go and leave. [Alex Skarsgard rocks this scene!] Sookie finally has a glimpse of a different side of Eric, and as he leaves the roof she comforts him by touching his hand and promising to stay with Godric until it is over.

When they are alone, they agree in hindsight going to the FOTS was not a smart idea. Godric asks if she believes in God and if God will punish him. Sookie reassures him that God doesn’t punish, he forgives, to which Godric states that he doesn’t deserve it, but hopes for it. Godric asks Sookie to care for Eric, but she isn’t quite so ready to forgive him yet; Godric says he is partially to blame for the way Eric is, but Sookie isn’t convinced that isn’t Eric just being Eric. Godric slowly starting smoking as dawn approaches. Sookie asks if he is afraid, but Godric is full of joy and wants to burn. Sookie cries as she is afraid for him and Godric is moved that a human crying for him can surprise him after 2000 years, and in this he can see God. As the sun rises over the horizon Godric bursts into blue flames and disintegrates into a fine ash that blows away with the wind….

And tune in for the final 3 episodes of True Blood…
