DEXTER: SEASON 4 SPOILERS [8.17.09]

JULY SPOILERS

Dexter and Harry's relationship will take a turn for the better this season. James Remar told E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos, "This year we're more companions than adversaries. Last year we were butting heads a lot, and Dexter was very angry with me. At the end of last season, he offered me his forgiveness because he knew he was going to be a dad. This year we're having more of a grown-up relationship where he's an adult, he's a man in his majority, he's a father, so we spend time together in pursuit of bad people." (Watch with Kristin)

Dexter and Rita's little boy is named "Harrison," after dear old departed grandpa Harry. (Comic-Con)

The titles for episodes one through six are "Living the Dream," "Remains to be Seen," "Blinded by the Light," "Dex Takes a Holiday," "Dirty Harry" and "If I Had a Hammer" (Buddy TV)

JUNE SPOILERS

The word from EW's font of television scoopage Michael Ausiello, is that Dexter will be mingling with the neighbors this season. In particular, a man named Elliot, played by Rick Peters, an actor whose his guest appearances are as common as his name, popping in on shows like Veronica Mars, Heroes and Bones. Ausiello also reveals that Dex will meet Elliot's wife and another neighbor named Andy. According to a casting call posted on Spoiler TV, Elliot will be a father of two, a ten-year old and a six-year old. (EW and Spoiler TV)

Courtney Ford, actress and wife of Superman Returns star Brandon Routh, has signed on for season four, in which she'll play a play reporter in a "multi-episode arc." Ford's other notable TV work includes stints on How I Met Your Mother, Lie to Me and Criminal Minds. If she's playing the reporter called for in the casting call posted on Spoiler TV, expect to see some "UPPER FRONTAL NUDITY." (Hollywood Reporter and Spoiler TV)

The biggest piece of news about Season 4 thus far is the announcement of creepy-as-hell baddass, John Lithgow, signing on to play a dueling serial killer in all 12 episodes: "Lithgow will play Walter Simmons, an unassuming, mild-mannered suburbanite who has been living a dual life as one of America's most prolific and deadliest serial killers. Dubbed the "Trinity Killer" because of his proclivity to kill in three's, he relocates to Miami after being tracked by F.B.I. Special Agent Frank Lundy (Keith Carradine). Brought on to assist in the investigation of Miami's latest serial killer, Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) becomes fascinated with "Trinity's" unique killing methods and his ability to evade capture for almost three decades. "

Season 4 will open six months after Dexter and Rita's wedding with the happy couple the proud parents of a new baby boy.

Executive producer Sara Colleton says that Dexter will grapple with having it all this season: "This season, we're going to deal with: Can a serial killer juggle a personal life, work, and his 'dark passenger'?"

MAY SPOILERS

Speaking of Deb, the feisty detective will be digging deeper into the Morgan family past this season, no doubt causing more trouble for big brother. "All the way through the season, Deb -- in her need to know her father more -- is going to get closer and closer to figuring out who Dexter's mother was and her relationship with her father," says Colleton. (EW)

Some reassuring news: the implaccable Keith Carradine will be reprising his role as FBI agent, and unlikely Deb-paramour, Special Agent Frank Lundy. Odds on him surving Dexter for another season? I'd say 3-to-1.

In case anyone was worried about this being the last season, Dexter and cast are confirmed for a Season 5 with the standard 12 episodes. Anyone but Hall surviving up to that point, however, is still up in the air.

While Michael C. Hall has said Dexter has to end some way, the idea of suicide has been floated as a way for the urban monster to bow out of his sins. And while it sounds unlikely, he hasn't ruled it out as a way to resolve and end the series eventually. "Kill himself? Well, he said that that is a reprehensible idea to him, but you never know." (Buddy TV)
